When couple's divorce, there is often an assumption that the mother of the children is most likely to get custody of the kids. In states including Ohio, the best interests of the children are taken into account by the courts when making such decisions. This doesn't always mean that the mother will receive custody.

A recent divorce battle that took place between former NFL Hall of Fame football player Deion Sanders and his estranged wife, Pilar, is an example of the fact that the courts look at a variety of factors to determine what is best for the kids. In their case, Deion was awarded temporary custody of the couple's three children. There are quite a few other high-profile divorces that have taken place in which the father has been granted custody of the children.

For example, Jesse James, the former boyfriend of actress Sandra Bullock was awarded sole custody of his daughter Sunny, who was 7-years-old at the time. Many readers may remember that 2008 was not a good year for singer Britney Spears who was involved in a variety of highly publicized breakdowns. Her ex-husband Kevin Federline was later given sole legal and physical custody of the couple's two sons.

Other famous dad's who received custody of their kids include Lenny Kravitz and soccer player Christiano Ronaldo. It's important for Ohio parents going through divorce to remember that a variety of factors are taken into account when custody decisions are made. It's also important to remember that orders can be changed if circumstances change in the future.
