In most cases, when a couple divorces in Ohio, matters can be kept relatively private and confidential. This can ease the divorce process by avoiding the public disclosure of the details of your private information. However, when celebrities and public figures divorce, these stories may be eye-catching for Ohio residents.

However, stories of celebrity divorce can be helpful because the issues that arise are often the same issues that any Ohio couple will face, including child custody, child support, division of property and alimony or spousal support.

For example, in the news this week are the divorce papers filed by the wife of the New York Yankees' General Manager. He apparently was caught in an adulterous affair for the second time, and this time the wife believes that their marriage is irreparably broken. She filed for divorce just after she found out the news of her husband's continued infidelity.

The couple has two children together, a 13-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son. The wife is seeking joint custody of the two and presumably child support, as well. According to her filing, she is also seeking permanent alimony.

What may be one of the more difficult issues in this case is the division of property between the divorcing parties. Together they own a mansion with a market value in the millions. Issues surrounding the marital home will certainly need to be addressed. These concerns include whether either party is allowed to remain in the home and, if so, how expenses will be paid. As an alternative, a sale of the property followed by a division of the proceeds may be preferred.

In addition, there are most likely other assets and property that must be divided, and those items will be the subject of this high-profile divorce as the proceedings move forward.
